CSS Learning Points

I liked learning CSS, because it made the boring website look so much better, and essentially thought me something I knew would be useful and really wanted to learn. The shell of the website was easy compared to this, as the colour codes and all messed me up for a while. I liked that I had learnt how to decorate a website, which transformed a simple text "file" into a real website with a website. I would hace hesitated to call the plain white text a website without this crucial element in every website. I found that CSS livened up the website a lot. The CSS challenge was enjoyable and educational, as although the process itself was boring, the thought of what I was learning, which was what I had wanted to learn all along, spurred me on. The idea that I would soon be able to edit my blog significantly, and from scratch, excited me somehow. This IT skill of formatting websites is useful in many cases, for both personal, and schooling reasons. I could use it to edit my own blog, or create an interesting website for Projects' Day. I do realise, however, the extent and limitations of what I have been taught, and know that I cannot really create a fantastic site with cool buttons and graphics, for this course is very basic and only thought me the, well, basics.

HTML Learning Points

From the lesson, I have found out a great deal more about HTML, although this is not even a basic. This has enlightened me as to how difficult web programming really is and how hard it is for web programmers to start from scratch, and how clearing out the "bugs" in the program could take many years to resolve. I have learnt how to formulate a very basic web page that is actually a black-and-white default colour, which is actually very boring, but a big leap forward in infocomm for me. I have learnt how to create paragraphs, headers, hyperlinks, and much more. I learnt more from the HTML Challenge, though, as it was hands-on and not just theoretical. This has taught me the bare basics of a website, rather like an unfurnished house or a Notepad text document-- plain and unadorned, with many ugly, boring defaults. I have found out more about HTML, but this has dampened my liking for IT, because of the long duration of time and brain wracking involved. I found it unenjoyable in a way, but extremely useful. I feel that it was a good spend of my time and have learnt much from it. I have been quite confused by the seemingly incomprehensible HTML language.

Forum Topics Learning Points

In this post, I shall focus on my own category in the forum, for that was what I found to be the most interesting.

I enjoyed the forum discussions very much, especially the interesting videos that merely hinted at what our close future could hold in store for us. Already, we are tantalisingly close. We have Web 2.0 and the Internet has improved to such a state. The high-technology software and data connection does require hardware too, though, and we are also very close in that aspect. 3D TVs that can convert images into 3D independently, HD TVs, Blu-Ray disk players that all provide high-quality playback, touchscreen TVs, monitors, phones and watches, multi-task PDAs, wireless headsets- we are very close to this future. I never though closely about Web 2.0, but I realise now how advanced it actually is, and it being necessary in our society, such that no one is out of contact with social networking sites, something only possible with Web 2.0, for long.It has become an integral part of our lives, posting photos, updates and much more on the Web, being able to access videos and pictures at the touch of a button. These would never have been possible without Web 2.0. I like that the videos did not merely show the future, but also the technology of the present day so as to allow for comparison. I have learnt more about the many subjects covered in the forum, and about Web 2.0-- what it really encompasses, and its true, broad definition.

Self-Reflections on Internet and Web 2.0

From this lesson, I have learnt more about the Internet and Web 2.0. Having come across this once briefly, I have clarified my many doubts thanks to this lesson, and also because I found out a bit more from the Internet after I had gotten home. I believe this lesson has revealed to me the rapid rate of technological advancement in today's society of the Information Age. I can further understand the basis and type of website such as Facebook and other Web 2.0 sites. I believe that I have learnt how to identify a Web 2.0 website with a rough accuracy, because I found out about the criteria to identify a Web 2.0 website. I think that the videos showed in class helped a lot in my understanding of the subject.

This is my understanding of Web 2.0

About Web 2.0

It is a relatively new technology that has created the foundation for many well-known and popular sites of today's world-- Facebook, Youtube,Flickr, Blogger and so on. The list stretches on forever. Imagine what life would be like without those familiar sites. No blogging, no common source of pictures, videos and worse of all, no social networking! Personally, I frequent all the above sites and I cannot imagine life without Web 2.0. It has created a high expectation of today's Internet. It basically allows for sharing of data easily on a massive scale-worldwide. It allows people to connect with each other, a virtual meeting place, share information, talk about their lives, post interesting things they notice on blogs, and, for work, allows people to collaborate on a document simultaneously, with an application online like Google Docs, and enables the most recent Cloud Computing. This drastically affects the workplace, where people form different countries, or even different parts of the country can work together, without actually being together.
